Joci Awards Production Assistant

Las Casas Foundation is proud to present the Joci Awards Production Assistant Internship Program as part of its annual performing arts scholarship program and in affiliation with the Joci Awards production team. Under the direction of a professional production company, Production Assistants will play a role in the creative, technical and musical aspects of the 2019 Joci Awards.

PARTICIPATION

The Production Assistant Internship Program is open to students in grades 9-12 who are U.S. citizens and residents of the State of Texas. All students must submit a complete application via the Las Casas Foundation website by Sunday, March 24, 2019. In addition to basic information, students are required to submit a recent photo or headshot, resume and 500-word essay explaining what the student hopes to gain from the internship experience and why they would be a good candidate. If selected, Production Assistants may be asked to assist beginning the week of Monday, April 1, 2019. Production Assistants are required to attend all rehearsals the week leading up to the Joci Awards (Monday, April 8 – Saturday, April 13, 2019), and the Joci Awards on Sunday, April 14, 2019.

TASKS

Tasks performed by the Joci Awards Production Assistants include but are not limited to:

  • Transcribing audio submitted by Joci Awards alum
  • Transcribing written pieces by student playwrights
  • Organizing and selecting pieces written by student playwrights
  • Organizing run sheets and paperwork under the supervision of production stage manager
  • Assisting with projection design build
  • Video taping musical number choreography
  • Serving as deck managers backstage during actual production run of show
  • Transcribing notes for director and producers
  • Noting blocking for solo pieces and creating blocking maps for tech
  • Noting choreography for group numbers
  • Advising director on creative decisions
  • Attending and taking notes at final production meetings
  • Maintaining morale and encouraging ensemble outlook

APPLICATION PROCESS

All application submissions must be completed by the student online at www.lascasasfoundation.org and include the following:

  1. Completed application form
  2. Recent photo/headshot (Note: If selected, photo will be used in Joci Awards program)
  3. Production Resume (View sample resume here)
  4. 500-word essay explaining what the student hopes to gain from the internship experience and why they would be a good candidate.

SCHOLARSHIP

Each Production Assistant will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Scholarships may be applied to tuition/fees at any in or out-of-state university or college regardless of major. Scholarships are made out to the university or college directly and under no circumstances to an individual. Funds are generally dispersed in late July to early August.
