Fundraising Statistics
Dollars Raised: Las Casas raised $5.2 million for the Phase I preservation and restoration of the Majestic Theatre (with the exception of the upper balcony and non-essential decorative plasterwork) and included backstage support areas for the San Antonio Performing Arts Center.
The $4 million Phase II Stagehouse Reconfiguration was funded by a $1.5 million contribution from the City of San Antonio and over $2 million from Arts Center Enterprises, Inc. The remainder was funded by Las Casas.
Las Casas raised $5 million for the Phase III preservation and restoration of the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre.
The Phase IV completion of the Majestic Theatre is projected to cost approximately $1.8 million. Remaining projects will begin when funding is available.
Comparative Performing Arts Centers
San Antonio Performing Arts Center: Two historic theatres -- the Majestic Theatre (1929) and the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre (1914) -- preserved and restored at an approximate cost of $14.2 million.
Dallas’ Morton H. Meyerson Center: A single venue/concert hall built at an approximate cost of $100 million.
Fort Worth’s Bass Performance Hall: A single venue/concert hall built at an approximate cost of $67.5 million.
Houston’s Gus S. Wortham Theatre Center: Two theatres built side by side for an approximate cost of $75 million. The two theatres have similar seating capacities as the Majestic Theatre and the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre in San Antonio.
Supporters: Las Casas has ninety-four major contributors including individuals, corporations and foundations who have given $10,000 or more. Approximately 5,000 additional donors have supported the project with contributions to Las Casas, plus thousands more have attended special theatre productions to benefit Las Casas. Most of these donations have been received from the South Texas area, however, many have come from all over the United States.
City Government Support: The City of San Antonio contributed $2 million toward the preservation and restoration of the Majestic Theatre, $1.5 million toward the stagehouse reconfiguration and $1 million toward the preservation and restoration of the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre.
