2017 Joci Awards Tickets On Sale Now

25 Talented High School Performers to be Awarded More Than $100,000 in Scholarships on Sunday, May 21 at the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre

 

SAN ANTONIO (April 3, 2017) – The Majestic Empire Foundation is pleased to announce that tickets for the 2017 Joci Awards, a one-night showcase of talented performing arts high school students in San Antonio and the surrounding area, are on sale now.  Scheduled for 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 21 at the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre (226 N. St. Mary’s St.), 25 finalists will sing, act and dance, vying for a chance to win a portion of more than $100,000 in scholarship funds and for two finalists, the chance to participate in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards in New York City.

Tickets start at $15 and may be purchased online here, by calling Ticketmaster at (800) 745.3000, or in person at the Majestic Theatre Box Office, located at 226 East Houston Street. Ticket sales benefit the organization’s scholarship and educational programs.

All 25 finalists are guaranteed scholarship funds ranging from $3,000 to $6,000, with notable guest judges evaluating their live performances to determine the amount for each. An additional $10,000 will be awarded to the best overall performance. A complete list of finalists can be found here.

Since the program’s inception in 2009, Las Casas has awarded more than $685,000, making it one of the largest scholarship funding source of its kind in the United States. The Las Casas Performing Arts Scholarship Program also serves as a Regional Awards Program for the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (NHSMTA) in New York City. Two students from San Antonio participate in a week-long theatre intensive of coaching and rehearsals with industry professionals in preparation for a one-night only showcase on Broadway, where a panel of judges crows the nation’s top performers.
